Permanent hair removal is an interesting term…

Is laser hair removal permanent?

…but is permanent hair removal even possible?

Hi, I’m Carl and welcome to Permanent Hair Removal Tips.

I first started running this website in 2006 and wrote extensively about my experience with shaving, laser, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), waxing, depilation and more. I shut the website down in 2012 but decided to start it back up again with new, updated information for you to peruse.

One of the main reasons for me (re)starting this website is to help people who are searching for information on hair removal to avoid getting taken in and tricked by various products and services claiming to offer hair removal abilities that they can’t actually deliver on.

“Permanent hair removal” is liberally thrown around online and in advertising but the truth is that there is only one hair removal procedure that offers it. All the talk about laser and IPL and home-use products offering permanent hair removal isn’t accurate. It’s simply not true. We’ll talk about that and more on this website including my personal experience with each option.

We’ll also discuss a more honest and realistic goal of hair removal that is legitimately offered by laser and IPL: permanent hair reduction.

There are numerous hair removal options including waxing, sugaring, depilation, laser and light-based hair removal for you to choose from depending on your hair removal needs and budget.

And if you’d like to learn more about shaving, I encourage you to check my other website Bald Guy BeardOpens in a new tab. which discusses shaving and related issues in more detail.

Permanent Hair Removal Doesn’t Exist

Hair grows in cycles which impacts hair removal.

In reality, no hair removal option can be truly described as offering “permanent” hair removal in the true sense of the word.

Only electrolysis can make the claim of true permanent hair removal but even that comes with a proviso…Hair grows in cycles and only hair above the skin can be treated for removal. If hair is dormant (it’s in a resting phase and isn’t growing), it may grow in the future and will need to be removed once it has reached the surface of the skin.

So electrolysis offers permanent hair removal but only for hair that has already grown above the skin and is thus removable at the time you do the electrolysis treatment.

This may sound obvious but if you get hair removal done and then days or weeks later see hair growing back, you may be seeing recently removed hairs returning or seeing recently dormant hair entering the growth phase.

And you’ll most likely need multiple electrolysis treatments to completely get rid of the undesirable hair. It’ll work but you need time (and some money).

But even though the other hair removal options don’t offer permanent hair removal, they can offer you an option that might meet your budget, hair removal goals and ultimately make you happy.

Some of these hair removal options may need to be utilized several times (or more) to achieve desired results for the long term too, so your expectations need to be weighed alongside the cost of each option and the time involved.

On this site, I’ll tell you about my experience with some of these options and will try to give you a sense as to hair removal choices that are available to you and reasonable expectations of each.

Why Consider Hair Removal?

There are a number of reasons why you might consider hair removal and specifically a hair removal option to get rid of unwanted hair for for the long term.

1. You simply want to get rid of unwanted hair: This is pretty self-explanatory and perhaps there really isn’t anything more to it than that. If you have unsightly hair in a place where you’d prefer to have no hair or it’s simply a nuisance and you’re tired of having to shave, wax or use some other temporary method to get rid of it then perhaps the investment is worth it to you. Getting rid of the hair permanently means you’ve got one less thing to worry about, too.

2. You want increased self esteem: This is probably the big one for most people. Unwanted hair can be both annoying and embarrassing especially if it’s in an embarrassing area! Similar to the first option, the desire to achieve permanent hair removal may very well increase your self esteem if it’s bothering you enough.

3. You want to save time: Hair removal is time consuming. Permanent hair removal means investing both time and money but if you get the long term results you’re looking for, then perhaps it’s worth it. The time you save in the long term might be well worth it especially when you consider the other benefits too.

4. You want to improve your look: Self esteem is one thing but looking better is something different because other people might notice. If you’re a woman who wants to get rid of hair above your lip or a man who wants to get rid of back hair for example, you’d better believe other people will notice how great you look (and feel) when that unwanted hair is gone for good.

Please have a good look over the website and thanks again for visiting!
