How To Remove Hand Hair (Including Permanently)

How To Remove Hand Hair

Hand hair can be an annoying and embarrassing problem for both women and men. Well, hand hair might be more an embarrassing problem for women but for men, sometimes excessive hand hair can also be a problem if it sticks out and is very noticeable. Think dark knuckle hair.

Hand hair can be removed in a variety of ways depending on the amount of unwanted hair, your budget and how quickly you want to get rid of it. Tweezing is the cheapest option and may be the quickest and most efficient one if you don’t have much hair. Threading is a possibility although you’ll probably need someone to perform it for you at a cost. Shaving is the next cheapest and quickest method. Waxing will give you several weeks of hair free hands. Laser or IPL will give longer results at a higher cost. Electrolysis might be the best way and only permanent one albeit potentially the most time-consuming and costly method as well.

Let’s take a closer look at each option to see what makes the most sense.

Tweezing Hand Hair

Tweezing involves pulling hairs out one by one by the root. While it doesn’t offer permanent hair removal and hairs will grow back, you will be without hair for a pretty decent amount of time. Probably 2 -6 weeks in general. And if you don’t really have much hair on your hand(s) to get rid of it, might be a good choice since you can do yourself with a clean, sterile pair of tweezers.

Threading Hand Hair

Threading involves using thread that is doubled and twisted and is then used to capture hairs and quickly remove them from the hair follicle. Unlike tweezing, threading can remove a number of hairs at the same time. In this case you’ll need to have a professional do the work since they need both hands. And there are plenty of people who specialize in threading and can do it quickly. Like tweezing you’ll probably get 2 – 6 weeks of being hair free so like tweezing, it’s something you’ll need to take care of regularly.

Shaving Hand Hair

Shaving is not only one of the cheapest forms of hair removal but it’s also the quickest. Having said that it’s also one that will need to be performed repeatedly since results only last several days at best. I really don’t see shaving one’s hands as being a legitimate option given that there are other more suitable ones that will provide longer lasting results.

Waxing Hand Hair

Waxing is a legitimate option to consider as it will provide several weeks of hair free results and can be done very quickly, probably with a single wax strip or two at most. The amount and location of unwanted hair will be key factors for success however. Our hands have knuckles and other natural curves and grooves that could make waxing challenging, depending on where the hair is located. Chances are you’ll get 3 – 6 weeks of being hair free so again, you’ll need to go back for regular treatments or do the work yourself. Might be a bit difficult unless you can use one hand.

Laser or IPL For Hand Hair

Now you’re starting to get into longer term and in my opinion, more appropriate options for hand hair removal. Laser hair removal and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) may both be options although they will be more expensive at least up front and will require multiple treatments. Having said that, with multiple treatments you can achieve permanent hair reduction so that the hair that you have is reduced and unless you have significant hair on your hand, you may end up reducing permanently the hair on your hands enough that you’re happy with the results and aren’t concerned with the remaining hair.

Laser and IPL do generally require dark hair to work properly and you won’t achieve success with blonde, red, grey or fine hair. But assuming your hair is dark, it could be an option for you.

Electrolysis For Hand Hair

Electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal and might be the best option for hand hair removal for that reason (its permanence) and also because it is best suited for removing relatively small areas of unwanted hair. Electrolysis involves removing one hair at a time so assuming you don’t have a great deal of unwanted hair on your hands it could be the most effective method.

Conclusion

If you have unwanted hair on your hand(s) you certainly have several options at your disposal. While several options aren’t permanent and need to be used repeatedly, your three best options are most likely going to be laser, IPL or electrolysis.

Laser and IPL are best suited for those with dark, coarse hair whereas electrolysis works on all hair types. While laser and IPL are suitable for only some people and doesn’t offer permanent hair removal, electrolysis is suitable for all hair types (and skin colors for that matter) and does offer permanent hair removal.
